How long did your GERD last?

It often starts in the upper abdomen and spreads up into the neck. It usually starts about 30-60 minutes after eating and can last as long as 2 hours. Lying down or bending over can bring on heartburn or make it worse. It is sometimes referred to as acid indigestion.

When did I find out I had acid reflux?

I was first diagnosed my sophomore year of college. I had chronic acid reflux (more commonly known as heartburn or indigestion) and swallowed a pill daily to quiet my symptoms. I was terrified to eat anything without taking my pill for fear of unbearable burning sensations in my chest or bloating and sharp pains in my stomach.

Is there an early stage of GERD that causes no symptoms?

Like many diseases, GERD has several stages ranging from mild to life-threatening. It is likely that there is an early stage of lower esophageal sphincter damage that does not cause symptoms. At present, we do not have any way of detecting such early asymptomatic disease.

What are the symptoms of GERD in the throat?

At this stage, typical GERD symptoms may also be accompanied by burning in the throat, chronic cough and hoarseness. Strictures, or a narrowing of the esophagus, can also occur which is characterized by the sensation that food is sticking in the esophagus. This same symptom can also be caused by esophageal cancer.

When did gastroesophageal reflux disease first start?

She first started having symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), such as sore throat and heartburn, about 20 years ago. She made some serious changes to her diet and lifestyle to try to relieve the pain, but still her symptoms persisted. By 2007, she was fed up and opted for a type of surgery known as laparoscopic fundoplication.

Twenty years ago I started having persistent sore throats, nausea, and heartburn. I was singing professionally, so I needed to find out what was causing my pain. I saw several ear, nose, and throat specialists; one suspected I had acid reflux and suggested I see a gastrointestinal specialist.

Is it possible to have Gerd and LPR?

Yes I have suffered with GERD for about 4 years now. It has been terrorising my throat though not my oesophagus. Some days are worse then others but it is terribly painful. I have seen may doctors about and I have been diagnosed with GERD and LPR.
